Let's talk Summer Makeup

Yay!! It's getting warmer, the grey skies of winter are blowing on and it's time to hit the beach, lake house, broadwalk, parks, backyard BBQ's and more. But you know what that means.... MELTING makeup!!!

Happens every year! And no luck if you are a head sweater (like me). So what do you do? Here are some things I use... that sometimes help.

Ok, so during the Summer months the first thing I do is switch to an Oil-free moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15. That way you don't need to use an extra step of adding sunblock/sunscreen. There are plenty of SPF face products out there. Next, I like to move over to my liquid foundation. Now with the brand that I use (MAC's Studio Fix Fluid) it leaves the skin with a satin finish... which some people might feel is too dewy for them. If you think so try looking for a matte finish liquid there are many out there! The reason I go to liquid you might ask... well the coverage is great and I don't have to use that much. ALSO when I use liquid in the summer months I don't use primer. YES I said it... no Primer for JES during the summer... I find it's just too much for my skin.
Now back to the sweating issue, if you're like me you fill in your eyebrows with a pencil, eye shadow or some powder. Well in the Summer when you are patting your forehead just be extra careful around the brow area and always bring back up... ( you don't want to be walking around with a dry head, but only one brow). I've heard of people using eye primers ( UDPP, Lumene, Vital Radiance, or Too Faced Shadow Insurance) under the eyebrow area since these products are transparent. Then drawing on the brows, seems to hold the pencil and powder longer.

Ok now on to summer looks... well this is a difficult one to write cause it's really up to you. You can still do the bold and crazy color combos or you can simplify it and do washes of color on the lids and fade up to the brow. You want to use products that don't challenge you during the summer! That's the route I like to take during the summer. Check out this from Victoria Stiles . Simple looks, but perfect for the heat. I also find that pigments ( MAC, Naked Cosmetics, HIP, NYX) are great for this time of the year. With most pigments they can be applied wet (foiled) for deep color and dry for washes. But since these are more straight color you have to use less product! Then just pop the lips or bronze out the cheeks.

One last thing... when possible try and thinking about your look and your day! If you know you'll be running around and having fun.... try a cream liner try Smashbox Jet Set gel liners and smudge it out for a soft look and just add some WP mascara. Then add color with lips or lip stain pop out the lips with a fun coral or hot pink. If you are going to a relaxing late afternoon BBQ why not try wash of color and semi smoke it out with a deep grey tone like Alaska from NYX, pink or peach cheeks depending on your eye color, and a clear gloss(since you'll be eating!!!)

There are a tons of things you can do to make the summer both colorful and bearable! Good luck!! If you looking for some cooling spray action great for summer and beach time!
